goal and program whether you are a first time visitor, know us through
relatives or friends, or already have children enrolled. Our school is a community school
licensed by the State of Connecticut, and welcomes children of all backgrou=
nds
and faiths.
The goal of our program is to introduce your child t= o the school experience in a positive way so that he/she will think of school as a pleasant and comfortable place to learn, feel good about him/herself and be= come confident about his/her abilities. Our primary interest is in the growth and well being of each child a= s a special and unique individual. We focus upon helping children to develop independence and competence through successful learning experiences. Our carefully designed curriculum = is developmentally appropriate and consistent with this age group's physical, emotional, social, and cognitive needs and abilities. The teachers prepare the classroom environment for learning through active exploration and interaction with st= aff, other children and materials.

program provides for growth and awareness in all areas of a child's

to the physical, emotional, social and cognitive aspects in a way that is
relevant to the lives of young children.&n=

All of the children are exposed to a wide range of developmentally
appropriate ideas and activities allowing them to learn at their own rate i=
n a
relaxed and pleasant atmosphere.
They have the opportunity to experience varied activities designed to
promote development in language, motor and self-help skills, socialization,
body image, stories, music and art.
We also seek to acquaint the children with the community by inviting
special visitors to our school such as fire fighters, police officers,
dentists, doctors, etc. The
curriculum for three year olds emphasizes language, simple projects, activi=
ties
and movement involving large motor skills.=
The four year olds enjoy a greater variety of experiences and more s=
mall
motor activities. They are al=
so
given more opportunity to develop basic mathematical, reading readiness and
problem-solving skills. Some =
four,
and many five year olds, combine ideas into more complex relationships which
allow them to succeed still further with beginning reading, writing and
mathematical concepts.
Our program incorporates various themes of interest to nursery school children = such as colors, shapes, animals, etc. We also learn about some national and Jewish holidays. A healthful snack time, indoor pla= y time, and weather permitting, outdoor play time are important parts of our school day. We ask that snacks be Ko= sher since the nursery school is utilizing synagogue facilities. Snacks should also contain no nut products in order to protect the children from nut allergies.
Our school utilizes the spacious facilities of Congregation Beth El Synagogue. These facilities include our large and cheerful nursery school rooms. In addition, the child= ren enjoy the new playground built for the nursery school. It includes swings, slides, a fire truck, climbing equipment, rocking animals, etc. specifically designed for three to five year olds.
Sally
Baker has been the Beth El Nursery School Director since 1991. She earned her B.A. Degree =
in
Elementary Education with a concentration in Political Science from Hunter
College of the City University of New York. Upon receiving her degree, she joi=
ned
the staff of Claude Chester School in Groton at the inception of a new prog=
ram
of non-graded elementary education.
Sally had the opportunity to work with children in this individualiz=
ed
program for four years where she also held the position of Teacher Team
Leader. Through the years, Sa=
lly
has contributed her time to various committees working in the interest of y=
oung
children. She also taught in =
the
Beth El Religious School for five years as the kindergarten-first grade
teacher. In addition, Sally
substituted at various public school grade levels and at the Beth El Nursery
School before joining the staff in September 1983. She is married and the mother of t=
hree
children.
Morning
and afternoon programs are available as follows:
Tuition is based on a yearly fee, (September through June) and can be paid in advance. If it is more conven= ient, tuition can be paid in nine monthly installments, with each installment due= on the first of each month beginning September 1st. One month's tuition is due u= pon registration to reserve a place for your child and will be applied as your = June tuition payment. The yearly t= uition fee is divided into equal payments for convenience and does not depend on t= he number of days in attendance. The school calendar is adjusted to reflect approximately the same number of sch= ool days in each year. Tuition is non-refundable regardless of attendance.
Beth
El Nursery School is pleased to offer an extended hours program called Lunch
Bunch!
Children
enrolled in this program attend their regular morning classes from nine to
eleven-thirty. At eleven-thir=
ty,
the Lunch Bunch will meet in one classroom for additional playtime, lunch
(brought from home), story time, projects, songs and fun until dismissal at=
one
o'clock. We ask that the lunc=
hes be
meatless in observance of the synagogue’s dietary laws. Afternoon students may join the fu=
n from
eleven-thirty to twelve-thirty at which time they would be escorted to their
class.
The
Lunch Bunch is an optional addition to our regular program. Parents may choose to enroll their=
child
for one, two, three, four or five days by completing the Lunch Bunch
registration form. The form, =
along
with the first month's Lunch Bunch tuition, should be submitted prior to the
month you would like your child to begin.&=

Lunch Bunch tuition is in addition to the regular nursery school
tuition. The Lunch Bunch sche=
dule
will follow the Beth El Nursery School schedule.
